Tobin Heath was born on May 29, 1988, in Morristown, New Jersey. Her biography reveals that she took a keen interest in Soccer ever since her childhood. Her height of 1.68m is an added advantage to the game she plays. During her time at her Alma Mater Ridge High School, Tobin played for the New Jersey Wildcats, which won the National Club Championship of 2003. Owing to her brilliant play, she was named to the Parade Magazine (All-American) for 3 consecutive years i.e 2003, 2004 & 2005 & was a four-years letter winner. During this period, Heath played for the U-16 team & U-17 Team & U-20 Women’s National Team & proved her mettle in the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship in Russia, where she was the 3rd youngest player on the roster.
Heath then moved to the University of North Carolina for her Junior High, where she opted to train with the boys’ team in her senior year. Heath then officially donned up for Tar Heel Blue, the team of University of North Carolina in 2006 & started 22 of 23 games scoring 4 goals & 9 assists. She scored 2 goals & 5 assists as a sophomore & was named First-Team All-ACC & First-Team NSCAA All-American. And as a junior, she scored a whopping 8 goals with 8 assists thereby helping her team to win the National Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA) title with a record 25-1-2.
Her scoring streak continued till senior year where she scored 5 goals with 10 assists compiling a record of 23-3-1 and an astounding 1-0 victory in the semifinal & final games of the NCAA. With 19 goals & 32 assists, Heath finished her University Soccer career helping her University team, Tar Heels win the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship in 2006, 2008 & 2009 along with Atlantic Coast Conference titles 4 times in a row.
She graduated as a Communications Major from her University. Heath made her international debut for the senior team in January 2008 against Finland & being the youngest player, won her 1st Olympic Gold Medal. Heath was named as the 2009‘s US Soccer Young Athlete of the Year (Female). Heath became the first overall pick in Professional Soccer 2010 for Women & was selected by Atlanta Beat. However, during her 3rd match, she suffered a major ankle injury which required a surgery & kept her from playing the remaining season. Heath was then traded to Sky Blue FC in 2011 with 12 appearances & then to New York Fury in 2012 where she played a game after recovering from her ankle injury. In 2012, she played a total of 26 matches, scored 4 goals & 7 assists, which included all the 6 Olympic games winning an Olympic Gold Medal in London.
In 2013, Heath decided to take her talents to Paris Saint-Germain team for 6 months & scored 5 goals in 12 appearances. She returned to the USA by signing up with Portland Thorns in 2013 & currently plays for them. The Thorns won the NWSL with Heath scoring a goal on Free-kick. She won a Gold Medal at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup which was held in Canada.
