Early Life and Youth Career

Tobin Heath was born on May 29, 1988, in Morristown, New Jersey. From an early age, she demonstrated a strong passion for soccer. While attending Ridge High School, she also played for the New Jersey Wildcats, helping them win the 2003 National Club Championship. Her talent was widely recognized, as she was named a Parade Magazine All-American for three consecutive years—2003, 2004, and 2005—and was a four-year varsity letter winner.

During her youth career, Heath represented the United States on the U-16, U-17, and U-20 Women’s National Teams. Her skills were showcased on the international stage at the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship in Russia, where she was the third-youngest player on the roster.

Collegiate Career at the University of North Carolina

Heath enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006 and joined their distinguished women’s soccer program, the Tar Heels. In her freshman year, she started 22 out of 23 matches, scoring 4 goals and providing 9 assists. As a sophomore, she tallied 2 goals and 5 assists and was named to the First-Team All-ACC and First-Team NSCAA All-American.

Her junior season was particularly impressive, with Heath contributing 8 goals and 8 assists. Her performance played a crucial role in leading the Tar Heels to a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) title, finishing the season with a record of 25-1-2.

In her senior year, Heath added 5 goals and 10 assists to her collegiate record, helping her team to a 23-3-1 season and contributing to 1-0 victories in both the NCAA semifinal and final matches. She completed her time at UNC with 19 goals and 32 assists, playing a key role in securing NCAA Women’s Soccer Championships in 2006, 2008, and 2009, along with four consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) titles.
