Anthony Hale was born on September 30, 1970 in West Point, New York. He was born to Rita and Mike Hale. His mom worked as a staff assistant to state delegate Kathy Ashe and his father was a teacher of atomic and nuclear material science and also served in the military. Hale went to the Young Actors theater in Florida and graduated from Leon High School in 1988. He graduated from Samford University in 1992 with a news coverage degree and finished his master's degree in 1995. He then moved to New York for his acting career.

Tony Hale started his acting career on the TV show Ghost Stories in 1997 as Billy Thrope. He got his biggest break when he was cast a regular on Arrested Development. He won a lot of his fans for his role as the spoiled child. He has also appeared in a lot of famous programs like Dawson's Creek, Sex in the City, The Sopranos, Numbers, and Veep. In 2018, he played a character named Jerome Squalor on the Netflix comedy series, A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Alongside TV shows, he has appeared in numerous movies like Stateside, Stranger than Fiction, and Transformer: The Last Knight. He also voiced animated motion pictures like The Tale of Despereaux, The Angry Birds 2, Toy Story 4, and Archibald's Next Big Thing. hale has even appeared in music videos. He has appeared in music videos for Switchfoot, Fall Out Boy, and Lady Antebellum.

In September 2019, at the 2019 Emmy Awards show, Hale was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series because of his performance in Veep. He thought he might have ended up being typecasted after Arrested Development but he worked hard to show that he could continue his successful run after Arrested Development ended.
