Tony Kanaan was born on December 31, 1974, in Salvador Brazil. Tony wasn't the richest kid in the world, but he enjoyed his early days, thanks to his supportive parents. His father worked as a factory owner. Tony started watching races on television with his father. Tony Kanaan started his racing journey at the age of seven when his racing enthusiast father fulfilled his wish to own a go-kart.

Everything was going fine for Tony until his father was diagnosed with cancer. Tony was just 11 when he heard that his father was suffering from the vicious disease of cancer. Later, the teenage Tony was devastated when his father died. His father was the man of the house and was the one who got him into racing. He needed to take time to recover after losing a big part of his life.

A Brazilian ironman, Tony is someone who has achieved success starting from the bottom. He had nothing with him when he moved to Italy forfeiting his education to fulfill his racing dreams. He took the hard decision because his loving father was already gone and nobody was there to support the family. Not only that, but the family also went broke when Tony's uncle stole money from the family business.

A race shop owner got impressed by Tony's racing knowledge while in Italy. The kind person allowed him to stay in the race shop, given that he would work as an employee. Tony slept on the mattress on the floor of his boss' office for three years.
