Behrami represented Switzerland at various youth levels, including the Under-18 and Under-19 squads, before making his senior debut in 2005. He was capped over 80 times for the Switzerland national team and participated in four FIFA World Cups: 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018. He also played in the UEFA Euro 2008, co-hosted by Switzerland and Austria.
One of his key contributions came during a World Cup qualifier against Turkey, where he scored an important goal at the Stade de Suisse. Despite an injury keeping him out of two group matches in the 2006 World Cup, he returned for the third match against South Korea. However, he did not play in the knockout stage match against Ukraine.
In the 2010 World Cup, Behrami was controversially sent off with a red card during a match against Chile after an incident involving Arturo Vidal. This made him the first Swiss player to be sent off in a World Cup match. Despite the incident, Behrami remained an integral part of the national squad in the following tournaments.
Valon Behrami is married to Elena Bonzani, a model. The couple has one child. While the specific date of their wedding remains private, they have maintained a relatively low-profile personal life.
Behrami's passion for football began at an early age, and he started formal training by the time he was eight. His commitment to the sport contributed significantly to his long and successful career. As of recent estimates, his net worth is approximately €1.4 million. Notably, his distinct hairstyle has even inspired artistic caricatures.
