Vijay Singh

Vijay Singh was born on February the 22nd of 1963. Native from Lautoka, Fiji. He is the son of Mohan Singh and Parwati Singh. He is a professional golfer and has the nickname The Big Fijian. During his childhood he practiced various other sports such as rugby, snooker, cricket and football.

About his biography, it is known that his father, Mohan, taught him golf when he was a kid. On that period of time, his family could not pay the golf balls, so he used coconuts instead. He used the swing of professional American golfer Thomas Daniel Weiskopf as model for practice during his youth.

First Years

In 1982 he turned professional and two years later he won the Malaysian Professional Golfers' Association Championship. In 1985 he was accused of doctoring his scorecard and was suspended from the Asian Tour. He ended up with a life-time ban from the Asian Professional Golfers' Association Tour after the accusations of that and other violations were proven to be true. Following that experience he continued to practiced and entered in tournaments.

By 1988 he travelled to South Africa to participate of the Safari Tour with the sponsorship of Red Baron. That year he also won the Nigerian Open, something that he repeated the following year. His participation in 1988 was the first time a person of colour had won that championship. Also by the end of that year he entered the Professional Golfers' Association European Tour annual qualifying tournament. The same year he won his second Nigerian Open, he also won in Italy the Volvo Open di Firenze. Apart from that he also won the Ivory Coast Open and Zimbabwe Open. That season he ended in the 24th position of European Tour Order of Merit and tied for 23rd position in the British Open. That year was a huge step up from his earlier strugglers.

Career

By 1990 he won the European Tour once again; something that he achieved in 1992, twice. From 1990 to 1993 he participated and won various Asian and African tournaments. In 1993 he entered the Professional Golfers' Association Tour, there he won The Barclays. That performance gave him as the Professional Golfers' Association Rookie of the Year. Two years later he participated of the Phoenix Open and The Barclays. Then in 1997 he won the Buick Open and the Memorial Tournament.

He resulted victorious at the Professional Golfers' Association Championship at the Sahalee Country Club. That victory earned him his first Major title. He continued with a good streak and in 2000 he snatched The Masters with a three-stroke victory, winning over Theodore Ernest Els. He finished 2001 with a Tour-best 14 top-10 finishes. And the following year he won the Shell Houston Open. He then settled a new 72-hole scoring record with a 266. Then he won the Tour Championship. Three years later he won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, being that his first win in a tour.

In 2005 he lost his number one place in the Official World Golf Ranking world ranking after Tiger Woods had won the Ford Championship at Doral. By 2009 he was advised to rest because of a back injury. His career earnings were of $60. His net worth is of $75 million dollars.

Life

He is married to Ardena Seth, who became his wife in 1985. To this day, they have not being movies portraying the golfer’s career.
