Zach Roerig, whose full name is Zachary George Roerig, was born on February 22, 1985, in Montpelier, Ohio, USA. He is the son of Dan and Andrea Roerig. He has a younger sister named Emily, born in 1989.
Roerig attended the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School in Cleveland, where he also participated in the International Modeling and Talent Association, leading to him securing a talent manager. During his time at Montpelier High School, he was active in sports, particularly football and wrestling. While growing up, he worked alongside his father and grandfather at Fackler Monuments, a business that crafted gravestones.
Roerig launched his acting career in 2005 by joining the cast of the daytime drama As the World Turns, where he portrayed Casey Hughes, the son of legacy characters Margo and Tom Hughes. He remained on the show until 2007, during which time his character was part of a popular on-screen couple, along with Alexandra Chando’s character.
Following his departure from As the World Turns, Roerig took on the role of Hunter Atwood in another soap opera, One Life to Live. He later appeared in the critically acclaimed series Friday Night Lights, portraying the character Cash, a rodeo cowboy.
Zach Roerig rose to greater prominence with his role as Matt Donovan in The CW’s supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries. He played the character throughout the series’ run from 2009 to 2017, appearing in all eight seasons. His portrayal of Matt, a grounded and emotionally resilient human surrounded by vampires and supernatural beings, earned him recognition and a dedicated fan base.
