Rebecca Lynn” Becky’ Hammon was born in 1977 in the state of South Dakota. Her father is Martin Hammon and her mother is Bev Hammon. She grew up with a sister and a brother. She played basketball for her high school team in South Dakota. In her young career, she was voted as Miss Basketball, and as a senior, she was South Dakota Player of the Year because she averaged 26 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals per game. In the same year, she was voted to be the Female Athlete of her graduating class.

In 2014, San Antonio Spurs hired her to be an assistant coach and this made her the second female assistant coach in the history of the NBA. She was also the first female to be an assistant coach full time.
