Adam Gilchrist was born on 14 November 1971 as Adam Craig Gilchrist in Bellingen, Australia. He has three siblings of which he was the youngest. His family owned vast acres of land and did farming and business. He started playing cricket at a very young age. For his primary schooling, he went to Decillion South Public School. There he was select in the school cricket team after the coach saw him bat one day.
At just 12 he was awarded the Brain Taber Shield scholarship which is given to children of exceptional cricketing skills. He later changed his school and got enrolled into Kadina High School. His impressive performances saw him being selected for the state under 17 team. He started getting offers from some other countries as well. Such as Richmond cricket cub that gave him the scholarship and wanted him to play for England in the future. After growing up he joined the Sydney Grade Cricket in order to hone his craft even more and get selected in the national cricket team.
In 1991 he was awarded a place in the youth team that toured England's. He performed in an impressive manner having scored one century as well as a half-century in the series. His performances caught te eye of Australian selectors and he was selected for the Agrarian Cricket Academy. He continued his impressive performance father returning in the country as well. He moved through the ranks slowly and steadily after giving good performances that saw him being select for the national team in 1996.
He debuted against South Africa in October 1996. He took the time to settle in the team. After a few months from his debut, he scored his first half-century which was an impressive 77 runs. It was in 1991 that he started to become the starter for the team. He was soon given the opening slot to bat on as he said to play at an impressive rate and won many matches in the process.
In 1998 he scored the most number of runs while on the New Zealand tour. In 1998 Australian lost in the final of the commonwealth games that entered him a silver media at the global sports event. He was instrumental in the 1999 world cup as he often gave impressive stars to the Australian innings with Mathew Hayden wining the matches on most occasions. He has won two world cups with the Australian team and has been a very important player in those games. He is regarded as the best wicket keeper batsman of all time be many. He has been known to leave the pitch when he got out even when the umpire didn’t give him out.
Although a fast player he has been very good in the test as well. He, however, was very good in twenty-twenty matches and many times won the game single handily.
