Zmed made his professional acting debut shortly after completing his studies. One of his early breakthrough roles was playing Danny Zuko in the national touring production of the musical Grease, a role he also assumed on Broadway. His television career began in 1978, with his first role as Marty Decker in an episode of Starsky & Hutch.

Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, Zmed appeared in several television series, including Flatbush, Goodtime Girls, I’m a Big Girl Now, Bosom Buddies, Angie, and An Evening at the Improv. However, he is best known for his role as Officer Vince Romano on the popular police drama T. J. Hooker, where he starred opposite William Shatner. This role brought him widespread recognition.

He continued to build his television résumé with roles in productions such as The Theresa Saldana Story, Murder, She Wrote, Hotel, Empty Nest, and Caroline in the City.

Stage Performances and Hosting Career

In addition to his screen work, Zmed returned to the stage with notable theatrical performances. He was a lead performer in the musical Children of Eden and appeared in productions of Grease, Falsettos, and Blood Brothers. More recently, he portrayed Noah in a New York City staging of The Ark.

In September 1985, Zmed became the host of the popular television dance competition show Dance Fever, succeeding Deney Terrio, who had hosted the show since its debut in 1979. His hosting stint introduced him to a new range of television audiences.
