Alexandra Hedison is an American actress, director, and photographer born in 1969 in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of the late actor David Hedison and Bridget Mori. Alexandra is of Armenian and Italian descent. She pursued her higher education at the State University of New York at Purchase and later attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Hedison began her career as an actress and earned recognition for her role in the Showtime television series The L Word. Additionally, she held small roles in popular TV series such as Melrose Place, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and the science fiction series Prey, in which she appeared alongside Debra Messing. Despite finding moderate success, Hedison eventually chose to leave acting, explaining that although she was financially stable in the profession, it did not bring her personal fulfillment.
Transitioning to photography, Alexandra Hedison has established a distinguished career as a contemporary visual artist. Her first notable exhibition featured abstract landscape photography at Rose Gallery in Los Angeles’s Bergamot Station. In 2005, she debuted a photographic series entitled Rebuilding, which explored the themes of loss, recovery, and transition, using architectural metaphors to evoke memory and the subconscious.
Among Hedison's acclaimed works is her large-format series Ithaka, named after the famous poem by C.P. Cavafy. This body of work was captured in the temperate rainforests of North America and was first exhibited in London. Ithaka was later included in celebrated art programs such as Passport to the Arts in New York and Month of Photography in Los Angeles. Her photography has been part of both solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums across the United States and Europe. Additionally, her work is held in several public and private collections internationally. In 2008, she was selected for international sponsorship by Barclays Capital.
