Education and Early Broadcasting Experience at Fordham University

Gainer graduated from Fordham University, a private nonprofit institution, in 2004 with a degree in Communications. During her time at Fordham, she served as an anchor for WFUV, the university’s public radio station at 90.7 FM, which is an affiliate of National Public Radio (NPR). Her work at WFUV earned her a Gracie Award for Individual Achievement as Best Anchor (Radio), honoring programs created by, for, and about women. In addition to her radio work, Gainer also anchored at the campus television station, building a solid foundation for her future broadcasting career.

Early Career in Radio Journalism

After completing her studies, Gainer began her radio career at WBGO 88.3 FM, a jazz-focused NPR affiliate based in Newark, New Jersey. While there, she and the WBGO news team received first place from the Associated Press for Best Election Coverage. They were also honored by the Public Radio News Directors Inc. (PRNDI) for outstanding journalism.

Gainer expanded her radio experience through positions at several notable stations. She worked at WOR 710 AM and WABC 770 AM in New York City—both well-known news and talk radio stations. Additionally, she spent time at Air America Satellite Radio, part of the progressive talk radio network previously owned by Green Family Media. Air America broadcasted both via satellite and through a network of 66 affiliates nationwide.

Transition to Television Broadcasting

Alice Gainer made her television debut at News 12 New Jersey, where she was a weekday morning reporter and weekend morning anchor. She also hosted and produced the fitness segment "Get Fit Friday." Her on-screen presence and journalistic competence led her to positions at other networks, including WNYW Fox 5 in New York City, a Fox Broadcasting Company affiliate. Throughout her television career, she has made appearances on major networks such as CNN, Fox News Channel, Fox Business’ "Happy Hour," and News 12 Westchester.

She later became part of the team at WCBS-TV and WLNY-TV, both owned by CBS. WCBS-TV is licensed to New York City, while WLNY-TV is an independent station based in Riverhead, New York.
