Aly Raisman

Aly Raisman (full name - Alexandra Rose Raisman) was born May 25, 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts in jewish family to Lynn and Rick Raisman. Aly began gymnastics as a hobby when she was two years old. She says that her idol always was a team of the 1996 –“The Magnificent seven” – the gold-medal-winner. During many years of training Aly was involved at the Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing center, then she moved to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club. The coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan was trained Aly with another gymnast Alicia Sacramone and prepared them for future victories in their sports career. Raisman graduated from Needham High School in 2012. After she completed online classes of senior year, Aly competed for the University of Florida, but instead she decided to choose a professional gymnastics career. Raisman currently attends Babson College.

The activity in sport career began in 2009 when Aly participated in American Classic in San Diego (tenth place), U.S. Classic in Des Moines, Iowa (twelfth place), later she competed at the National Championships in Dallas and placed third. In event finals, she placed fifth on vault and second on balance beam. At the Junior Pan American Championships in Aracaju, Brazil, she contributed high scores on vault and floor exercise, toward the American team's first-place finish. Individually, she placed third in the all-around, first on vault and floor.

Through the 2010 Aly Raisman competed at the American Cup in Worcester, Massachusetts (2-nd place), competed at the Pacific Rim Championships in Melbourne. Aly’s activity helped the American team win the gold medal and placed second in the all-around competition with a high score. Then Raisman placed fifth at the U.S. Classic in Chicago and participated at the National Championships in Hartford, Connecticut (placed third).

Aly's career went up, when she became team captain at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo. Her scores gave to the American team's first-place. After championship in Tokyo Raisman decided to become a professional athlete, giving up her NCAA eligibility, so she signed contract with the Octagon-sports. She said: “I just wanted to try it and have no regrets, because I thought if I didn’t try to go pro, I’d always wonder. I know all the girls at Florida, and they love it there so much. But not a lot of people get the opportunity to be a professional gymnast and be able to have sponsors. I love fashion, so it’s cool to be sponsored by Ralph Lauren.”

Raisman competed at the Olympics in London in the 2012. She helped the American team –“Fierce Five” qualify in first place. She also was a member of the gold-winning American teams at the 2015 World Championships, and has been named as captain for the U.S. women's team for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Aly showed her magic feet, when she appeared on Season 16 of “Dancing With the Stars” and finished in fourth place, dancing with Mark Ballas.
