Ana Ortiz was born in Manhattan, New York on the 25th of January 1971, to a well-off family. Angel Ortiz, her father served the Philadelphia city council for 19 long years. He was elected in the year 1984 and was the first Latino to be so. Her mother, of Irish American descent, encouraged Ana to be a ballerina dancer, and evidently she also wanted to pursue it as a child. She did 8 years long practice for ballerina but later realised that she was not able to handle the feet woes caused due to dancing, hence she sold her ballerina shoes and directed her artistic capabilities to singing. Ana pursued her singing career from the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Arts, New York City and graduation from the University of Arts in Philadelphia.
Ana did her first professional performance for a regional theatre production and there after performed in many theatres and plays including a play directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman, an Academy Award winning actor.
Her on-screen career started with a short role in the year 1999, on the TV movie: Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. She was then seen in a number of television series, a few amongst them are Kristin (2001), NYPD Blue(2000,2002), Strong Medicine (2002), A.U.S.A. (2003), Greetings from Tucson(2003), The New Adventures of Old Christine(2006), Little girl lost: The Delimar Vera Story(2008) etc. Her role in the TV series Ugly Betty (2006-2010), brought her major recognition, awards and accolades. At present, she is regular on the series ‘Devious Maids’ and continues to work in guest roles on various television series other than that.
Her film career didn’t bring much into her kitty, she had a few short roles and has also been a voice actress. Her voiced movies include Batman: Gotham Knight and Noah’s Ark: The New Beginning. Interestingly in her short stint with films she has been able to bag a nomination of Imagen Awards for Best Actress for the film ‘Sleeping with the Fishes.’
A majority of her awards come from the comedy series Ugly Betty. It includes Best supporting actress awards- Television from the ALMA Awards and the Imagen Awards.
Ana is an active figure on social networking sites like Twitter and Instagram. She has an athletic and hot body and likes to do sports activities such as water sports, hiking etc. in her spare time. Apart from this, Ortiz also has a penchant for writing poetry. She also has a philanthropic part of hers which aims at awareness against domestic violence. She has also been seen giving tips for weight loss on various online platforms which she does from her personal experience of losing post baby fat.
