Career

Andrea Mitchell was born into a Jewish family with established roots. Her father served as the CEO of a furniture manufacturing company, and her mother worked as an administrator at the New York Institute of Technology. Mitchell completed her high school education at New Rochelle High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was also news director for the student radio station, WXPN.

She began her journalism career at KYW radio in Philadelphia, where she quickly gained recognition. In 1978, she joined NBC News as a network correspondent. Her coverage of significant events, including the Three Mile Island nuclear accident, earned her a promotion to chief congressional correspondent. Later, she became NBC's chief White House correspondent and ultimately assumed her current role as chief foreign affairs correspondent. Her extensive reporting has established her as an authority in both domestic politics and international relations.
