Anita Briem was born on May 29, 1982, in Reykjavik, Iceland. She grew up in a musically enriched environment—her father, Gunnlaugur Briem, was a drummer for the Icelandic jazz-funk band Mezzoforte, and her mother, Erna Þórarinsdóttir, was a backup vocalist. This artistic atmosphere played a significant role in shaping Anita’s interest in the performing arts from a young age.

At just nine years old, Anita began acting at the National Theatre of Iceland. By the age of sixteen, she had made the decision to pursue acting professionally and moved to England.
