Annabella Sciorra (full name Annabella Gloria Philomena Sciorra) was born on March 29, 1960 in Wethersfield, Connecticut, to a housewife mother and a veterinarian father. Her parents are both Italian-American and her father emigrated from Carunchio, Abruzzo in 1951. When Annabella was 11 her family moved to Brooklyn, New York City. She attended South Shore High School in the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn and graduate it in the 1978. Annabella was focused on a career in dance and studied dance as a child, and when she grew older. Also as a teenager she began taking acting drama lessons at Herbert Berghof Studio and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, which graduated in 1980.
In the 1981, Annabella founded repertory group at the Brass Ring Theater Company. Sciorra began her professional acting career in the end of ‘80s, appearing in the television movies like "The Fortunate Pilgrim", and "True Love", which brought to her Independent Spirit Award nomination for “Best female lead”. As she said “It's always weird doing love scenes. And the thing is, you can't really photograph two people kissing naturally, because then you wouldn't be able to see anything. That's what I learned in this movie”. The Success in first roles attracted the attention and gave her co-lead role in Spike Lee's movie “Jungle Fever” in the 1991. Sciorra starred in the thriller “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle”, and got critical acclaim for her playing in “Cop Land”. Annabella Sciorra was also listed as one of twelve "Promising New Actors of 1990" in John Willis' Screen World, Vol. 42. Annabella earned critical praise as Robin Williams' despondent widow in the fantasy “What Dreams May Come” in the 1998. Playing role of Gloria Trillo in “The Sopranos” – HBO TV series, Annabella was nominated for a 2001 Emmy Award. In the 2005 she got role of detective Carolyn Barek on the TV series “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”.
She has appeared Off-Broadway in various works, such as: Those The River Keeps, The Vagina Monologues, Roar, Spain.
