Ashley Walker was born on February 24, 1987, in Stockton, California, United States. She is the daughter of Jackie and Tiran Walker and has one brother, Tiran Jr., who plays professional basketball in England. Coming from a basketball-oriented family, she is related to James Hardy, a former NBA player for the Utah Jazz. As of recent records, Ashley Walker plays as a forward for the Romanian team CSM Târgoviște.
Walker graduated from Grace M. Davis High School in Modesto, California. During her high school years, she earned recognition on the Cal-Hi Sports All-State team and was named League MVP in her senior year. In addition to basketball, she was a multi-sport athlete, participating in varsity volleyball, track, and field events.
After high school, Walker attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she played for the California Golden Bears. She contributed to the team while playing both forward and center positions. Known for her consistent play, she recorded 47 career double-doubles and remains one of the top players in school history. She remained in Israel for the following season, playing for Maccabi Ramat Hen (2010–2011).
