Early Life and Background

Ashton Fletcher Irwin was born on July 7, 1994, in Hornsby, New South Wales, Australia. He grew up with his siblings, sister Lauren and brother Harry. His mother, Anne-Marie Irwin, raised them as a single parent after separating from their father. Ashton attended Richmond High School before embarking on a career in music. He identifies as Christian and owns a pet dog named Indie.

Musical Beginnings and Career with 5 Seconds of Summer

Before joining 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS), Ashton was part of a band called Swallow the Goldfish. Initially skeptical of 5SOS due to their inconsistent YouTube covers, he eventually became the group’s final official member in 2011. Alongside Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, and Michael Clifford, he helped shape the pop rock sound that brought 5SOS global recognition.

The band's debut single, "Out of My Limit," was released in 2012. Since then, Ashton has contributed not only as the drummer but also as a singer and multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, piano, and saxophone. He was first introduced to drums at the age of eight, and performing in front of live audiences remains one of his fondest memories.

Personal Interests and Fun Facts

Standing at 6 feet tall, Ashton enjoys a wide range of hobbies and interests. He is a fan of the TV show Family Guy and the film The Pursuit of Happyness. Among his musical favorites are the Green Day live album Bullet in a Bible and Justin Bieber’s song “Right Here.” He is also a self-professed fan of anime, particularly Dragon Ball Z.

He claims red as his favorite color, likes banana milkshakes, and dislikes olives and ducks. His favorite fruit is pineapple, and he enjoys spaghetti. Ashton listens to ambient and soothing jungle music while relaxing in bed. Known for his snoring, he’s also reputedly the band member who can do the most push-ups.
