Bennett Joseph Savage, popularly known as Ben, was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 13th, 1980. His parents, Joanne and Lewis Savage, had three children: Fred Savage who is an actor/director, Kala Savage famous actress/musician, and Bennett Savage, who is an actor/director. Their grandparents were immigrants from Poland and all of the three were raised in Judaism.
Ben started his acting career in TV commercials at only five years old. His older brother, Fred Savage, who starred in The Wonder Years, was his inspiration. He also credits his parents for encouraging him into acting. They spent their life encouraging their boys to become good actors.
Boy Meets World
He had his first acting debut in his brother’s movie Little Monsters. He acted in two more movies directed by his elder brother named Big Girls Don't Cry, They Get Even which was released in 1992 and Clifford released in 1994.
Ben's most well-known appearance, however, came when he was thirteen years old. In 1993, he was cast in the lead role in the ABC sitcom series Boy Meets World. Boy Meets World's storyline chronicled Cory (Ben Savage) and his friends and family through middle school, high school, and into college as a married man with humorous yet honest everyday life-lessons. The series lasted for seven years, during which he grew up with his co-stars Rider Strong, Danielle Fishel, Anthony Tyler Quinn and Willie Garson.
“That was my life-- it was my childhood” he stated in an interview with Hollywood Reporter. “I remember every episode. What do I take away from that show? We had a ball. We just had so much fun. We didn't stop laughing from the second we got to set until the second we left.”
They remain friends today. “What I always like about good friendships and relationships”, Ben has stated, “is that it does not matter how much time it's been, you can immediately sit down and start talking where things left off.”
Though Savage was busy with his acting career, he did not neglect his studies. In 2004 he graduated from Stanford University with a Political Science degree. As one of the requirements for his degree, he was an intern for US Senator Arlen Specter. He was also a Member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
Girl Meets World
In 2014, he reprised his role as Cory along with co-star Danielle Fishel as Topanga for the new spinoff series Girl Meets World which focused on the life of the couple’s teenage daughter. In Girl Meets World, the power couple Savage (Cory) and Fishel (Topanga) appear as husband and wife after 14 years. The series chronicles the coming-of-age of their 12-year-old daughter, Riley, played by Rowan Blanchard. Ben (Cory) is not only her storyline father, but her history teacher, as well. The series premiered on June 27, 2014 on the Disney channel and ended three years later on January 20, 2017. Ben was able to gain experience directing a number of episodes for the series.
