Bette Midler can be considered among all rounders of the industry. You name it and she's done it. She is an esteemed Award winning singer, versatile actress, entertaining comedienne, a song- writer, film producer and an entrepreneur. In 1945, Fred Midler, a Navy base worker in Hawaii as a painter, residing in Aiea, in Honolulu, Hawaii, was honoured with a girl who he decided to name after the actress Bette Davis and the baby girl as now we know it came to be called Bette Midler. She was the third daughter to her mother who was a seamstress and a housewife but unlike mother, daughter had a totally different life ahead.
In Hawaii, she studied at the Radford High School where she was voted with titles like Most Dramatic and Most Talkative. She performed quite well in school but she always felt different from the majority of students as she was the only Jewish white girl in her school. She was to major in drama from the University of Hawaii at Manoa but dropped out after three semesters. As the free bird she was, she then flew down to New York in 1965 and is known to have made her debut on stage with playwright and theatre director Tom Eyen's Broadway plays namely ‘Cinderella Revisited' & ‘Miss Nefertiti Regrets' reaching to the peak of her Broadway career in 1969 with ‘Salvation' .
She first gained attention for her singing skills in 1970 at ‘The Continental Baths', a gay bathhouse based in New York City, thus leading her to a award winning career as a singer and lyricist as well, soon after which in 1972, her very first album ‘The Divine Miss M' was launched by Atlantic Records which had singles like ‘Do You Want to Dance?' and she set forward on her journey of the stunning releases, talk about her second album Bette Midler that came out 1973 or her album that came out in 2003 called ‘Bette Midler Sings the Peggy Lee Songbook'. All these albums earned her prestigious awards like Grammy. After the success of her debut album, her acting skills were not unseen and she made her debut on the big screen with her performance of a hard-living rock-and-roll singer in The Rose (1979), for which she was awarded as best actor.
She continued with her career but in the midst of all this struggle she met the love of her life (her husband) an artist Martin von Haselberg on 16th December 1984. They married shortly after that and were blessed with a daughter on November 14, 1986, who was named Sophie Frederica Alohilani Von Haselberg. She has given the industry number of blockbuster movies over the years like ‘Down and Out in Beverly Hills’ (which also featured her stand-up comedy) in 1986 and a parenting comedy released in 2012 Parental Guidance which have won her numerous awards. She also has her hold over the social sites like Twitter and Instagram with a huge fan following there as well.
Her age didn't seem to slow her down, instead she conquered it all by the end she rocked the big screen with her performances in her 70s as well. She might have earned a fortune while doing what she did best but the net worth of it is that provided us with the precious gem like her.
