Boomer Esiason

Born on April 17,1961 in West Islip, New York, Boomer Esiason spent most of his childhood days in East Islip situated on Long Island. His full name is Norman Julius Boomer Esiason. He was nicknamed Boomer by her mother because he kicked a lot while he was in his mother’s womb. He completed his education form the Timber Point Elementary and East Islip High School. When he was a kid, he was interested in sports and played basketball, baseball as well as football. He did his graduation from the University of Maryland in 1984 and also was also felicitated with the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1999. It was in his college that his interest for football developed and he set 17 records before his graduation.

After completing his degree from the University of Maryland, he was chosen for the 1984 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. His first game was against Houston Oilers on October 7, 1984 where he scored the only touchdown and was the reason for Bengals in over Houston. He then became the starting quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals in 1985 succeeding Ken Anderson.

In 1993, Esiason was picked by New York Jets and he played as their offence until 1995. In a match against Buffalo Bills, he got a severe concussion, from which he recovered in November and his returning match was also against the Buffalo Bills. He then went on to play with Arizona Cardinals in 1996 and in this year only he made the record of the fourth best passing yardage day in NFL history. After he left Arizona Cardinals, he was again chosen by Cincinnati Bengals in 1997 where he led them to victory in four of the last five matches. He retired after 14 years in a match where he led his team to victory against Baltimore Ravens. His stats are pretty impressive with 247 touchdowns, 2969 completions in 5205 pass attempts and 37,920 yards.

After his retirement, he started working as a commentator and a football analyst and is currently working with CBS Sports and HBO. He also co-hosts Boomer and Carton, a sports radio program in New York.

He has won several awards and recognition during his 14 year career. He has the record of most touchdown passes and was named to four Pro Bowl games in 1986, 1988, 1989 and 1993. He was also awarded the NFL Most Valuable Player Award in 1988, Walter Payton Man of The Year Award in 1995 and the Pulse of The People Award in 2011. He was included in the Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and is the 25th greatest quarterback of the post-merger era.

He is married and he is the husband of Cheryl. They have two kids, a son Gunnar and a daughter Sydney. He also founded The Boomer Esiason Foundation in 1994 which helps to fund the research which are trying to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis after his son Gunnar was diagnosed with this disease at the age of two.
