Cameron Mathison was born on August 25, 1969, in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. During his early childhood, he was diagnosed with Perthes disease, a rare condition that affects the hip joint. As a result, he had to wear leg braces for several years. Despite this challenge, he had a supportive upbringing alongside his older brother, Scott Mathison.
Cameron attended Thornlea Secondary School in Thornhill, Ontario, where he completed his high school education. He later enrolled at McGill University in Montreal and earned a degree in Civil Engineering.
After completing his education, Cameron shifted focus from engineering to the entertainment industry. Blessed with a fit physique and good looks, he initially explored a modeling career and appeared in several commercials. His growing interest in performance led him to begin formal acting classes in Toronto, which marked the start of his career in show business.
Mathison made his television debut in 1997 with the TV movie Any Mother's Son. He followed this with a role in The Defenders: Choice of Evils in 1998. His feature film debut came with a small role in the movie 54 (1998), which was shot in Toronto.
He later appeared in a variety of TV movies, including The Wife He Met Online (2012), Along Came a Nanny (2014), and My Gal Sunday (2014). Mathison’s portfolio grew steadily as he took on roles in both television movies and episodic series.
In 1997, Cameron appeared in an episode of F/X: The Series, but his major breakthrough came with the role of Ryan Lavery on the long-running ABC soap opera All My Children, which he starred in from 1998 until the show ended in 2011. The role earned him national recognition and a loyal fan base.
During and after his time on All My Children, Mathison made guest appearances on popular television series such as The Drew Carey Show (2002), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2003), and What I Like About You (2003).
Since 2009, Cameron Mathison has served as a regular correspondent for Good Morning America (GMA), focusing on entertainment news. He has reported from major events such as the Academy Awards, Grammys, Golden Globes, American Music Awards, MTV Awards, and Country Music Awards. In addition to entertainment reporting, he has hosted a number of chat segments and celebrity interviews, featuring figures like Robert Downey Jr., Kim Kardashian, Sylvester Stallone, Richard Gere, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Mathison has also hosted several television programs, including I Wanna Be a Soap Star (2004–2007) on Soapnet, the Daytime Emmy Awards (2006, 2008) on ABC, Instant Beauty Pageant (2006–2008) on the Style Network, and Your Place or Mine (2008) on TLC.
