Carol Kirkwood is a British weather presenter who works for the BBC, primarily on BBC Breakfast and Victoria Derbyshire. The Met Office trained her. She competed in the 13th series of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, finishing 10th.
Carol Kirkwood was born on May 29, 1962. She was one of eight children born to parents who ran a hotel in Morar, a small village in Scotland. Kirkwood's family name was MacKellaig, and as a young child, Kirkwood was a Girl Guide, the Scottish equivalent of Girl Scouts. She attended Lochaber High School in Fort William, Scotland. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in commerce at Napier University in Edinburgh.
Carol Kirkwood was married to Jimmy Kirkwood for 25 years until finally divorcing him in 2008. Although she has not remarried, the television admitted she isn't against the idea at all. While competing on "Strictly Come Dancing" in 2015, Kirkwood said she believes in marriage, especially if you are married to your soulmate and the one with who you want to spend the rest of your life.
She continues to tease fans by dropping an occasional hint at who she may be dating, but nothing serious has developed. She has said that many of her fans compliment her on her clothing, but Kirkwood says she doesn't put much thought into what she will wear outside of making sure it isn't the same thing she wore the day before. In an interview where she asked whether she is concerned about her on-screen look, Kirkwood answered that she has more to worry about than her looks. Kirkwood usually gets up at a quarter to three in the morning, takes a shower, and heads to work for the day. She insists it is a struggle to remember what she wore the day before.
After graduating from Napier University, Carol Kirkwood began her career by joining the BBC's Secretarial Reserve located in London in 1984. She started off working on radio, starting with BBC Radio Scotland and then switching to BBC Radio 2 followed by BBC Radio 4. Kirkwood took a hiatus from BBC for a while as she served as a Training Consultant and Associate Director for a Management Consultancy firm at Cheshire.
It wasn't until 1993 that Kirkwood would start appearing in front of the camera when she returned to BBC. She was associated with HTV West through their program "Talking Issues," which aired bi-monthly. In 1996, Kirkland began working for The Weather Channel, but her time there didn't last long, and she went on to receive training at the BBC's Met Office. She kicked off her career as a weather presenter on BBC News and was regularly featured on several shows, including BBC News, BBC One, BBC World News, BBC News at Six, and BBC Red Button.
