Early Life and Background

Casey Affleck was born Caleb Casey McGuire Affleck-Boldt on August 12, 1975, in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Raised in a family with strong ties to the arts, he is of Irish, English, Scottish, German, Northern Irish, Swedish, and French ancestry. Influenced by one of his high school teachers, Affleck developed an early interest in drama and began participating in school plays. He later pursued a career in the film industry, which would lead him to become a noted actor, screenwriter, producer, and film director.

Early Acting Roles

Affleck began his professional career with a small role in Gus Van Sant’s black comedy To Die For (1995), where he played a sociopathic teenager. He gained further attention with supporting roles in acclaimed films such as Good Will Hunting (1997), which was co-written by his brother Ben Affleck, and Chasing Amy (1997). Other early credits include Race the Sun (1996), Desert Blue (1998), Drowning Mona (2000), and the psychological thriller Soul Survivors (2001).

Breakthrough and Critical Acclaim

From 2001 to 2007, Casey Affleck portrayed Virgil Malloy in Steven Soderbergh’s popular Ocean’s Trilogy, a caper comedy series that helped solidify his presence in mainstream cinema. His performance as the younger Malloy brother brought him greater popularity.

In 2007, Affleck achieved critical acclaim for two standout performances. He starred in Gone Baby Gone, directed by his brother Ben Affleck, where he portrayed a private investigator searching for a missing child. That same year, he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his nuanced performance as Robert Ford in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
