Cate Blanchett was born in Ivanhoe, a suburb in Melbourne, Australia on 14th May 1969. June, her mother was a teacher and a property developer in Australia and her father Robert Dewitt Blanchett Jr. was a native of Texas as a petty officer of the United States Navy and later, on was an advertising executive. Her parents met in Melbourne when her father’s ship landed in Melbourne. However, she did not spend much of her childhood days with her father, who died of a heart attack when she was just ten years old. She has two siblings and is the second born with her elder brother Bob being a computer engineer and her younger sister Genevieve a theatrical designer.
Blanchett attended the East Primary School at Ivanhoe in Melbourne and got her secondary education at the Ivanhoe girls’ grammar School and subsequently the Methodist Ladies’ College. It is here that she developed a sudden passion for acting. However, she continued her studies at the University of Melbourne for fine arts and economics. On one of her visits to Egypt she was offered a role in a boxing movie Kaboria. On her return from Egypt, she left the University of Melbourne and got a transfer to Sydney to join the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) to get an acting profession.
She acted in many award winning films like ‘The Aviator’, ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ ‘Elizabeth’ and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.’ During her career as an actress, she met her husband, Andrew Upton, in 1996. He is a screenwriter and a playwright. The following year on 29th December 1997 the couple was married and they have three sons Dashiell John, Roman Robert and Ignatius Martin.
The couple spent the 2000s in Brighton, England which was their family home and returned to their native Australia in 2006 November. This decision was taken by Blanchett so that her children will have a permanent home and will feel a sense of belonging. She lives presently with her husband and children in Sydney on the suburb of Hunters Hill, in a sandstone mansion that was earlier owned by Halse Rogers Arnott. She had bought this beautiful home for A$10.2 million, did some renovation in 2007 and made it very eco-friendly and comfortable to live in.
Nothing much is said about her relationship with other men, nor is there anything known about her earlier boyfriends. Hence, it appears that she is happily married and living with her husband and family and divorce is not a topic for discussion in her life.
During her career as an actress she has received many Award and nominations like in 2007 the Best Actress nomination for Elizabeth; the best supporting actress for ‘I’m Not There’ and she was the 11th actress to receive in the same year, two Oscar nominations. In 2008 she was once again presented with a star for ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ by the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her present networth is $45 million and she thanks her acting career that brought her from a pauper to a millionaire. Though her rating is average, she feels extremely satisfied with her career and her family life.
