Charlie Day (middle name Peckham) was born in 1976 in New York City. He is both a screen writer and a television producer; however, he is best known for his long time role of Charlie Kelly in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, soon to be the longest running situation comedy in history. He can also be seen (or heard) in movies including The Lego Movie, Pacific Rim, Horrible Bosses and Fist Fight.
Charlie Day primarily grew up in Rhode Island where his mother (Mary) taught piano and his father was a professor of Music Theory and Music History. His father is a mixture of Italian with Irish descent while his mother is of English, Irish, and Welsh descent. Day attended Pennfield School early in life, graduating from Portsmouth Abbey School prior to attending Merrimack College where he received a BA degree. While in college, Day was also active in the summer training program at Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts. In addition to playing Charlie Kelly on the hit FX television series, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, he is also one of its writers and producers. Early in his career, he made guest appearances in television shows including Reno 911, Third Watch, and Law and Order.
Charlie Day has also produced other television shows such as How to be a Gentleman, and Unsupervised. He has hosted a Saturday Night Live (SNL) where his Sunny co-star Danny Devito made a guest appearance. Devito came on stage to give Day humorous advice about hosting SNL. Day has been in a long time relationship (since 2004) with his now wife Mary Elizabeth Ellis. The two married in 2006 and Ellis gave birth to their son, Russell, in 2012. Ellis, an actor in her own right, played Day's incestuous sister in an episode of Reno 911. Day is said to have arm wrestled a friend for the chance to speak to Ellis at a bar.
The full net worth of Charlie Day is 14 million. His salary has primarily come from his appearances in mainstream movies. Additionally, he has received both a Satellite Award and was nominated for the Critic's Choice Television award for his work in the offbeat television comedy Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
