Early Life and Education

Born on January 31, 1971, in Iowa, Christine Romans attended Iowa State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication. She also studied French during her time there and participated in a student exchange program that allowed her to spend time living and studying in France. This international experience later contributed to her global perspective on economic reporting.

Personal Life

Christine Romans is married to Ed Tobin, a Reuters journalist. The couple has three children and lives in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Despite her demanding career, Romans maintains a strong family presence and balances work and personal responsibilities effectively.

Career in Journalism

Romans began her career at Reuters and later reported from the Chicago futures trading floor for Knight Ridder Financial News. She joined CNN in 1999, initially reporting from the New York Stock Exchange. She also worked with the now-defunct CNNfn, where she anchored the program Street Sweep.

Her roles at CNN expanded to include correspondent positions on Moneyline and Lou Dobbs Tonight. Romans eventually co-anchored Your Money alongside Ali Velshi, bringing vital financial analysis to viewers every weekend. She also served as the headline announcer for CNN's morning shows Starting Point and Early Start, and appeared on American Morning.

Economic Reporting and Coverage

Romans has become known for simplifying complex economic topics through her segment Romans’ Numeral, helping viewers make sense of global and domestic financial developments. She has reported extensively on major events, including the global financial crisis, the AIG bailout, the derivatives market collapse, and the implementation and consequences of economic stimulus packages.
