Born in August 13, 1961, Sam Champion grew up in Kentucky. He studied at the Eastern Kentucky University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast news. He currently lives in a $5.5 million dollar penthouse in New York. He was rumored to be involved in a homosexual relationship with Mike Piazzas in 2000, but Piazzas denied the reports. Champion in the year 2012 announced that he and Rubem Robierb, his partner for many years were engaged. The couple got married the same year on 21st December.

Profession

While studying at Eastern Kentucky University, Sam Champion worked as intern at the WKYT-TV located at Lexington, Kentucky. He started as weather reporter on WABC-TV for the show ‘Eyewitness News’ in the year 1988. He was also the fill-in anchor for WABC-TV. Currently, he is the weather reporter on Good Morning America. He has also appeared on various other shows including the World News alongside Diane Sawyer in 2010, as host of the show Sea Rescue, which is an informational Litton’s Weekend Adventure show that touches upon rehabilitation, rescue, and release of animals to their natural habitat. Sam Champion has also worked at WPSD-TV located in Paducah, Kentucky and at the WJKS, which is now called as WCWJ situated in Jacksonville, Florida.

Other Interests

Sam has been actively involved in several charitable organizations in and around New York City. He served as the Grand Marshal of Multiple Sclerosis Society Fall Bike Tour and as the Chairman of the Dimes NYC WalkAmerica’s 25th Annual march. He was also the master of ceremonies of the Stopping AIDS Together movement of Sunday by the Bay. He hosted the Courage Awards 2002 sponsored by New York City Project.

Though Sam Champion is not a professional meteorologist, he gained his knowledge in weather forecasting during his work in broadcasting journalism. He has also appeared on the talk show, Live with Kelly and Michael, which is produced by WABC-TV and the show Larry King Live at CNN. Champion had a carcinomatous spot in his skin suspected to be Basal Cell Carcinoma, which he had removed while on air in 2010. The event was criticized to be a publicity stunt on his part, but Sam Champion maintained that it was done as part of his cancer awareness campaign.
