Clinton E. Howard, professionally known as Clint Howard, was born on April 20, 1959, in Burbank, California. He is the son of actors Rance Howard and Jean Speegle Howard, both of whom had notable careers in film and television. Clint grew up in a show business environment, which helped shape his early interest in acting. He is the younger brother of Ron Howard, a prominent actor and award-winning director.
Clint Howard began acting at a young age, making television appearances even before his participation in The Andy Griffith Show. In 1963, he appeared in the ABC medical drama Breaking Point and later in the 1964 television production The Home is the Hunted. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Clint took on various roles in well-known series such as Rod Serling’s Night Gallery, The Jungle Book animated series, and Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, where he contributed voice work.
Clint has appeared in many films directed by his brother, Ron Howard, often in supporting or cameo roles. His collaboration began at age 10 with Ron’s first directed film, Old Paint. Notable showcases of their creative partnership include appearances in Grand Theft Auto, Cocoon, Gung Ho, Backdraft, Parenthood, Far and Away, and Apollo 13. In the television series WandaVision, Clint played Paul Lucas in the episodes “We Interrupt This Program” and “Spider,” also produced by Ron Howard.
A notable part of Clint Howard’s career has been his association with the Star Trek franchise. He first appeared as a child actor in Star Trek: The Original Series and later portrayed a Ferengi in Star Trek: Enterprise in the episodes “Acquisition” (2002). He also acted alongside fellow Star Trek veterans such as Joseph Ruskin, Majel Barrett, Vince Deadrick Sr., and Jack Donner in various editions of the series.
