She came from a politically influential family. Her father, Hale Boggs, served as a Democratic Congressman from Louisiana and was the House Majority Leader. He was also a member of the Warren Commission, officially known as the President’s Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy. Her mother, Lindy Boggs, was appointed to her late husband's congressional seat and went on to become a long-serving U.S. Representative and later U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican.
