With these news that he covered, his popularity increased a lot and he began to earn fame as well as money at large.  

Craig was born on the 20th of May, 1979 into a middle class family in Columbia, South Carolina, USA. His father was Lawrence Melvin, a banker and his mother Betty Melvin worked as a fitness instructor and both his parents were Afro- Americans. Born as their middle of three sons, he had a pretty pleasant childhood and was brought up with all the love and care from his family. After completing his high school studies, he went on to study at Wofford College, which was run by the government. Graduating in 2001, he took small reporting jobs in a couple of local news stations. He even anchored a news show for one of his internship companies; and later was promoted to a senior reporter. That was when NBC came and asked him to join them, in 2003.  He worked for them for almost 5 years before leaving for MSNBC.
