His father, Lawrence Melvin, worked as a banker, while his mother, Betty Melvin, was a fitness instructor. He is the middle of three sons and was raised in a supportive and loving environment.
Melvin attended local schools in Columbia before enrolling at Wofford College, a liberal arts institution in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism.
