David Anders was born David Anders Holt on March 11, 1981, in Grants Pass, Oregon, United States. He is the son of Jeri Holt and Tony Holt, a medical doctor. David has two older brothers, Arik and Jason, and an older sister named Maili. Jason and Maili were adopted—Jason is African-American and Maili is of Vietnamese descent.
Anders attended Grants Pass High School, where he showed a strong interest in both athletics and the performing arts. He played sports such as tennis and basketball while also participating in school theater productions. Some of his early acting roles at school included portraying Philip the Apostle in a play based on the life of Jesus and playing George in Thornton Wilder’s classic "Our Town."
Pursuing his passion for acting, David moved to Los Angeles after high school. He was initially accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena but chose to start his acting career directly instead. His television debut came in the series So Little Time, and in 2001, he gained wider recognition for his recurring role as Julian Sark in the television show Alias.
Anders’ early career also included roles in TV shows such as Deadwood, 24, and Heroes. Notably, he appeared in the second season of Heroes and made guest appearances in popular series including The Vampire Diaries, Criminal Minds, Arrow, Once Upon a Time, iZombie, Warehouse 13, Undercovers, Stalker, and the television adaptation of Children of the Corn.
