David Cross is an American actor, stand-up comedian, writer, and director know for his portrayal of the character of Tobias Funke in the sitcom Arrested Development. David Cross was born on April 4, 1964, in Roswell, Georgia. David’s family was poor, his father left when he was ten and the family was evicted from their home; David spent some time living with friends or in motels. He attended Northside High School in Atlanta, but moved to New York City the day after graduation.
David performed stand up in Boston throughout the 1980’s and in 1990 he became part of the new comedy scene that was emerging at the comedy club chain Catch a Rising Star. David appeared several nights a week alongside comedians such as Janeane Garofalo and Louis C.K. In 1999, David created a one hour comedy special for HBO called The Pride is Back. He also released a comedy recording called Shut Up You Fucking Baby! which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. David Cross married actress Amber Tamblyn in 2012. In 2017, the couple had a baby, a daughter, and stated on Instagram that they had named her Dauphinoise Petunia Brittany Scheherazade Von Fünkinstein Mustard Witch RBG Cross Tamblyn-Bey Jr; the couple later admitted their daughter’s real name was actually Marlow Alice Cross
