David Haffenreffer was born on August 2, 1967, in Providence, Rhode Island. His mother, Susan Haffenreffer, was a clinical social worker for the Bristol County Community Health Center in Taunton, Massachusetts. His father was a vice president in Providence, Rhode Island, for Fleet Investment Advisors, a unit of FleetBoston Financial. David studied at Saint Lawrence University and received a bachelor’s degree in English. David later studied journalism at the American University Graduate School of Journalism and Public Policy.
David Haffenreffer started his career as a video field producer at GTE Corporation. He also worked at WSUB-AM/WQGN-FM as the news anchor and director. Soon after leaving WSUB, David joined Bloomberg Television, where he worked from 1992 to 1998. He was the anchor for the business news show and focused his efforts on reporting on the financial markets. He joined Reuters as an anchor in 1998 and worked as the host of the syndicated show on personal finance titled ‘Money Talks’ while also providing financial updates for WABC-TV. David quit Reuters in 2000 and joined CNN, where he was the co-anchor of the show ‘Ahead of the Curve,’ a two-hour show on business matters. David Haffenreffer’s career in journalism lasted for over 16 years and included radio broadcasting and the formerly mentioned television anchor jobs. He has reported on both local and international news related to finance, business, and entertainment.
David was also a correspondent for Showbiz Tonight on CNN, a one-hour news show produced for Headline Prime at Headline News. During his long career, Haffenreffer reported on the daily activities of the stock market and has interviewed essential personalities in the financial community, including Michael Armstrong, Hugh Johnson, and Ralph Acampora. David moved into selling real estate in 2015, became a broker, and today, he works as a full-time realtor in Greenwich, Connecticut. David says his passion is to infuse state-of-the-art technology into the real estate brokerage business to enable buyers and sellers to get their deals closed quickly and easily.
David Hefferneffer married Lara Spencer, an anchor on the show ‘Good Morning America,’ on September 30, 2000. The romantic ceremony took place at St. Andrew’s Dune Church Southampton, presided by Reverend Peter Larsen. After her matrimonial ceremony, Lara opted not to adopt David’s last name and maintained her professional name of Lara Spencer. David’s wife, Lara, is an independent woman who does not bask in David’s fame. She is her own woman and has soared to great heights. Lara was born in New York and attended Garden City High School and Pennsylvania State University. She later began a career in journalism, the field she had studied at University. David and Lara met while the two were working in the media industry.
