David Yost

David Yost is an American actor and producer best known for his role as Billy Cranston, the original Blue Ranger, in the popular children's action television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Early Life and Education

David Harold Yost was born on January 7, 1969, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. During his youth, he lived in various parts of the United States and excelled in gymnastics, winning several national competitions in vaulting, including state titles in both Iowa and Montana. Yost graduated from Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California, in 1987. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Dramatic Arts from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, in 1991.

Acting Career and Rise to Fame

After completing his studies, Yost relocated to California to pursue a career in acting. Within three months of arriving in Los Angeles, he was cast as Billy Cranston—the Blue Power Ranger—in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The role quickly propelled him to international fame and remains the most recognized and celebrated part of his acting career.

Yost played Billy Cranston throughout three seasons of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and reprised his role in the 1995 feature film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. He also returned for the limited series Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers and continued as Billy in Power Rangers Zeo before departing from the franchise.
