Douglas Emhoff is an American lawyer, born in 1964 in Brooklyn, New York. He was raised primarily in New Jersey alongside his sister. Although limited public information is available about his early years, it is known that Emhoff moved to California during his teenage years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Media Studies from California State University, Northridge, in 1987. He then obtained a Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1990.
Following law school, Emhoff began his legal career in the early 1990s. He worked as an associate at Bingham McCutchen LLP and later at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. In 1998, he became a partner at Belin Rawlings & Badal, a Los Angeles-based law firm. Douglas Emhoff met Kamala Harris, then California’s Attorney General, through a blind date arranged by a mutual friend in 2013.
