Eddie Hearn is an English boxing promoter who was born on June 8, 1979, in Essex, United Kingdom. Hearn is also the group managing director of Matchroom Sport and he is also the director of the Professional Darts Corporation. Little is known about Hearn's early years other than he followed in his father's footsteps. Matchroom Sport was a business which was founded by his father, Barry Hearn. Now that Hearn has taken over his father's company as group managing director, he spends much of his time securing deals such as the company's exclusive televised boxing deal which it holds with Sky Sports until 2021.
The deal stipulates that Matchroom Sport much broadcast up to 20 live shows a year keeping Hearn a busy man. Hearn is also a fight promoter and he promotes boxers for Matchroom Sport including Anthony Joshua, Amir Khan, Kell Brook, Oleksandr Usyk, Ryan Burnett, Khalid Yafai, Artur Beterbiev, Tevin Farmer and Rocky Fielding. May 2018 marked Hearn's biggest achievement, the first $1 billion boxing deal in the sport's history. Streaming giant DAZN signed an agreement to stream shows across America for Matchroom Sport. The heart of the deal includes 16 shows in America which will be streamed exclusively to DAZN. The streaming service will also host 16 of his UK shows as a result of the deal.
