Louis Freese, professionally known as B-Real, was born on June 2, 1970, in Los Angeles, California. At the age of five, he moved with his mother and sister to the town of Bell in South Gate, California, while his father remained in Los Angeles.
He briefly attended Bell High School before dropping out to pursue other interests.
B-Real is of mixed ethnic heritage, with both Mexican and Cuban roots, though he holds American nationality.
B-Real keeps most of his personal life private. He is not married and has no publicly known children. While he has been romantically linked to a few actresses over the years, no official relationships have been confirmed. He maintains an active presence on various social media platforms.
After leaving high school, B-Real became friends with Mellow Man Ace and Sen Dog. This connection eventually led to the formation of the influential hip-hop group Cypress Hill. The group signed a recording contract with Columbia Records in 1991 and released their eponymous debut album the same year, which quickly gained popularity.
The album, produced primarily by DJ Muggs, achieved platinum status. Cypress Hill made history by becoming the first Latino hip-hop group to attain both platinum and multi-platinum album sales. They are still recognized today as one of the best-selling Latin rap groups in history.
In 1996, B-Real contributed to the soundtrack of the film Space Jam. He later formed a rap-metal group called Kush, which included Fear Factory members Raymond Herrera and Christian Olde Wolbers, as well as guitarist Stephen Carpenter of Deftones. This side project highlighted his versatility and ability to work across genres.
Beyond his work with Cypress Hill, B-Real has established himself as a talented producer. Though he kept a low profile during his early years to avoid overshadowing Cypress Hill’s primary producer DJ Muggs, he eventually worked with artists such as Proof from D12 and produced material for WWE. He also leads a collective of music producers under the name Audio Hustlaz.
He has appeared in several films, including Shade, The Rugrats Movie, and Thicker Than Water.
B-Real has collaborated with a vast array of musicians, including Outkast, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Proof, A$AP Ferg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Ice Cube, Xzibit, Young De, Fat Joe, Method Man, Redman, Dilated Peoples, Kurupt, King Tee, Outlawz, Slash, Mack 10, Deftones, Nina Sky, DJ Quik, Big Pun, U-God, Raekwon, Ras Kass, Tom Morello, Daron Malakian, Sonic Youth, Travis Barker, Ill Bill, RZA, Tony Touch, Busta Rhymes, RBX, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, Kottonmouth Kings, Mike Shinoda, Nas, Roni Size, Adil Omar, Bitza, Tim Armstrong, Rusko, Nostra, and Damian Marley, among others.
