Barbra Streisand was born on April 24, 1942 in New York City, New York. She is an amazing performer and has reached the greatest heights in both the music industry as a singer and songwriter and also the film industry as an actress and filmmaker. Barbra is an amazing talent because she became a legend in two different careers.
Upbringing
Barbra was one of three children. She had an older brother, Sheldon and a half sister, Roslyn born from her mother’s second marriage.
Entertainment Career
Streisand began singing in nightclubs as a teenager and then moved onto acting in films and later to Broadway. Her first television appearance was in 1961 on The Tonight Show. Also that same year, she had some controversial appearances on TV. She was pinned as being very self absorbed.
In the early sixties, she did a few Broadway appearance and won accolades for Funny Girl and many other shows.
Her career as a singer brought on the recording of 50 albums, including the single The Way We Were in 1970 which followed the movie in 1973, starring Robert Redford. She has performed duets with Donna Summers, Barry Gibbs and Elvis Presley. Her amazing portfolio includes Oscars, Grammys, Tonys, Emmys, People’s Choices, Golden Globes and BAFTA Awards from 1976 and on. There’s not many people history that can touch what she’s been able to achieve in her career.
Close Relationships
Her first marriage was to Elliot Gould; an accomplished actor in his own right. In 1962, while, on Broadway, Gould got Streisand to co-star with him in I Can Get it for You Wholesale. They developed a courtship while working together on set.
Gould moved in with Streisand and they were married by 1963. Barbra seemed to still be supporting Gould as she was gaining fame and he was struggling to get roles. By 1966, they were proud parents of their son, Jason. Carrying the fame of his wife, Gould struggled with the shame of not carrying his weight which created tension in the marriage. The couple separated in 1969, only six years after they tied the knot.
Luckily for Gould, the separation was what he needed to get motivated. He rose to go onto very popular TV shows and movies. They mutually agreed that they were better off away from each other and they permanently ended the relationship in divorce in 1971.

During 1969, Streisand was the celebrity girlfriend of the Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau. It was only a small flight that would only last one year but Streisand enjoyed being involved with royalty.
In 1974, she began dating John Peters, who was her hair stylist at the time. He moved forward into a management position for her and directed her film career, as well. He produced the remake of A Star is Born in 1976, which became a box office hit and received 4 Oscar nominations. His career boomed, and he went on to become an A-list producer.
No one is sure what caused the end of the relationship between these two but they remained great friends even after their relationship ended. It was rumored that Barbra had two affairs while she was with John, one being with Robert Redford and Ryan O’Neal. Barbra had confided in John many aspects of her career; including the fact that Ray Stark molested her during her audition of The Way We Were. Stark was the head of Columbia Pictures at the time and no one dared cross him, until John met him. John picked the tiny man up and spun him around the room and gently threw him back on the couch. John never did divulge why he had done that to him but it was revenge for Barbra
In 1992, Streisand showed that she was able to attract younger men as an older woman when she started dating the younger famous tennis star Andre Agassi. Andre later spoke of the relationship stating that dating Barbra was like wearing hot lava.
Love at Last
James Brolin became her second husband, when they got married in 1998. Brolin stated in 2013 that he is fed up of waiting and he wanted to end the relationship. He said that he was tired of waiting for his diva wife to pay more attention to him. They were able to fix their issues and celebrated 20 years with each other in 2018.
The two lover birds met when they were set up on a blind date. In an interview with People Magazine, Streisand was excited to share the story of love “I met him at a dinner and expected a bearded mountain-man type, and he had cut off all his hair and was clean-shaven. I asked him, ‘Who screwed up your hair?’ He later told me that’s when he fell in love with me. My fella likes to hear the truth, which is unusual.”
Her stepson is Josh Brolin was recently gained fame for playing Thanos in the Marvel Universe collection of films. Josh and his wife Kathryn Boyd are expecting their first baby together and Josh spoke about his stepmom, “My wife got her a bracelet that said ‘Grandma’ on it and she started crying. She is one of those, it’s annoying but in a really great way, [with] emails every day and like, ‘Hey, I thought of this name, what do you think of that? When can I come over and feel the baby? She is really into it and I love that she is into it. I mean, it’s like very typical Jewish grandmother who is saturated by this event. It’s awesome.”
It seems that Streisand never lost the Jewish charm that she grew up. She is always opening her arms to people because she has so much love to give. The amount of love she has in her heart can be measured by her amazing career. She has touched so many people and inspired so many dreams through her singing career and film work. Not only is she timeless, her work will live on forever.
