Big E is an American professional wrestler, former powerlifter, and brief collegiate football player. He is best known for his energetic persona, powerful in-ring style, and as a prominent member of the WWE stable, The New Day.
Big E was born Ettore Ewen on March 1, 1986, in Tampa, Florida. His parents, Eltore and Margaret Ewen, are of Afro-Caribbean descent. As a student at Wharton High School, Ettore distinguished himself in athletics, excelling particularly in wrestling and football. His impressive performance earned him several honors, including Hillsborough County's Ironman award, which highlights versatile athletes.
Following high school, Ettore attended the University of Iowa, where he played collegiate football as a defensive lineman for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Although his football career did not continue beyond college, it laid the groundwork for his transition into strength-based sports and entertainment.
After college, Big E briefly pursued powerlifting, a field in which he found considerable success. He won multiple competitions and set national records in the USA Powerlifting Federation in 2010, establishing himself as a top-tier strength athlete. His performance caught the attention of WWE talent scouts, leading to a developmental contract in 2009.
He began his wrestling career in Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), which later became WWE’s developmental brand NXT. Competing under the ring name Big E Langston, he quickly made an impact with his strength and charisma. He defeated several top competitors and captured the NXT Championship, securing his place as a rising star in WWE.
Big E's most notable success in WWE has come as a member of the tag team stable The New Day, alongside Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. Formed in July 2014, the trio quickly developed a following due to their entertaining personalities and in-ring chemistry. They became the longest-reigning WWE Tag Team Champions in history, holding the titles for 483 days from 2015 to 2016.
After losing the titles to Cesaro and Sheamus, The New Day transitioned to the SmackDown brand, engaging in memorable feuds with top teams like The Usos. In June 2019, they faced Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens at WWE Stomping Grounds but fell short in that outing, leaving fans momentarily disappointed. Despite occasional losses, The New Day has remained one of WWE’s most successful and enduring tag teams.
Big E has built a significant net worth through his wrestling career, merchandise sales, and media appearances. As of recent estimates, his net worth is believed to be in the range of $2 to $3 million. His popularity and longevity in WWE have positioned him as one of the company's most respected athletes.
Known for his outgoing personality, Big E is highly active on social media, where he engages fans with humor and behind-the-scenes content. While he frequently jokes and flirts online, he has kept his personal relationships out of the public eye.
During an appearance on the reality television series Total Divas, he was featured going on a casual date with the sister of fellow wrestler Natalya Neidhart. However, it appeared to be a light-hearted segment, and no serious relationship followed. Big E has also maintained a close friendship with former WWE wrestler Kaitlyn (Celeste Bonin). While fans have speculated about their bond, neither has confirmed anything beyond a platonic relationship.
Despite public interest, Big E has consistently prioritized his privacy, choosing to let his professional accomplishments define his image rather than his personal life.
