Brian Williams served as the managing editor and anchor of NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, the flagship evening news program of NBC. He assumed this role in 2004, succeeding veteran journalist Tom Brokaw. Prior to joining NBC Nightly News, Williams was an anchor at WCBS-TV in New York City.
Brian Douglas Williams was born on May 5, 1959, in Elmira, New York, and raised in Middletown, New Jersey. He attended George Washington University and later studied at the Catholic University of America, both in Washington, D.C., though he did not complete a degree.
Williams married Jane Gillan Stoddard in 1986. The couple has two children: a son, Douglas Williams, and a daughter, Allison Williams, an actress known for her work on television and in film. The family resides in New Canaan, Connecticut.

Throughout his career, Brian Williams received numerous accolades, including twelve Emmy Awards, eleven Edward R. Murrow Awards, the George Foster Peabody Award, the DuPont–Columbia University Award, and the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism. In 2007, Time Magazine included him in its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
A NASCAR enthusiast, Williams hosted the inaugural NBC telecast of a NASCAR event in 1999. He is also an avid supporter of the New York Giants. In recognition of his contributions to journalism, Bates College awarded him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in 2005.
