Brie Larson is an American actress and filmmaker, best known for her role as Carol Danvers in Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel.
Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers was born on October 1, 1989, in Sacramento, California. Largely homeschooled, she was encouraged from a young age by her parents to pursue her interest in the performing arts. At just six years old, she became the youngest student ever admitted to the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where she began studying drama. Her television debut came as a child in a sketch on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Larson began her acting career in the late 1990s with a guest appearance on Touched by an Angel (1999). She gained more recognition through her role as the daughter of the main character in the television sitcom Raising Dad (2001–2002). In 2003, she starred as a teenage race car driver in the Disney Channel original movie Right on Track.
Her breakthrough in television came with the Showtime series United States of Tara (2009–2011), where she played Kate, the daughter in a family dealing with dissociative identity disorder. Around this time, she also took on supporting roles in notable films such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Rampart (2011), and 21 Jump Street (2012).
Larson received widespread acclaim for her performance as a mother held captive with her young son in the 2015 drama Room, based on Emma Donoghue’s novel. Her powerful portrayal earned her an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award for Best Actress.
In the following years, Larson continued to build her filmography with a mix of action and drama roles. She co-starred with Mark Wahlberg in The Gambler (2014) and appeared opposite Amy Schumer in the hit comedy Trainwreck (2015).
In 2017, Larson starred in the action-adventure film Kong: Skull Island and the biographical drama The Glass Castle. She reached new levels of global fame in 2019 with her portrayal of Carol Danvers, a former U.S. Air Force pilot who gains superpowers, in Captain Marvel. The film became a critical and commercial success, further solidifying her status as a leading figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She reprised the role in Avengers: Endgame the same year.
Outside of acting, Larson showcased her musical talent in a 2019 Instagram video, singing Miley Cyrus’s “Slide Away” while playing guitar—a nod to her earlier career as a recording artist in her teenage years.
Brie Larson was previously engaged to musician and record producer Alex Greenwald, lead vocalist of the band Phantom Planet. The couple began dating in 2013 and became engaged in May 2016. They later ended their engagement, although they have maintained a supportive friendship. As of now, Larson is not publicly married or in a confirmed relationship.
In addition to her acting work, Brie Larson is also a professional singer with a background in pop music, having released a studio album in 2005. According to IMDb, she has a small mole under her left eye. Her height is listed as 5 feet 7 inches (170 cm), rather than the previously reported 5 feet 8½ inches.
