Carmelo Domenic Licciardello (January 19, 1956 - February 16, 2021), known by his stage name, Carman, was a famous evangelist and contemporary Christian music artist. He featured in many religious TV series, such as Carman: Celebrate Jesus, Time-2, and Carman's Reality Check.
As a child growing up in Trenton, New Jersey, Carmelo used to play drums. He started as a member of his mother's band and then formed a band of his own during his teenage years. At around the age of 20, Domenic moved to California independently.
His evangelistic career began when he attended an Andraé Crouch concert. It was at that moment that he became a born-again Christian. In 1980, he released an album titled God's Not Finished with Me. The following year, Bill Gaither invited him to tour. Between 1987 and 1989, he was named Charisma Magazine's Readers' Choice for Favorite Male Vocalist. In 1990 and 1992, Billboard recognized Carmelo's influence on Christian music by naming him the Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year. In addition, Carmelo holds the record for the biggest attendance at a Christian musical performance.
In 2008, many sources accused him of having numerous illicit affairs. Rumors of a romantic love triangle between Mario Murillo, Carmelo, and another woman named Oksana circulated for about two years, and there were even speculations that he was having a sexual relationship while in the ministry. His devoted fans refused to accept that Carmelo would have a relationship outside of marriage.
However, no woman ever came forward to take responsibility, and the only rumored affair with any real truth was speculation that he was in a relationship with Patricia Manterola while he was married to Rosa Licciardello. Patricia discussed infidelity on Oprah, claiming that in Mexico, if a man proves that his wife pushed him into adultery by not meeting his needs, she loses her alimony rights. This sparked a public outcry, as people speculated that she was referring to Rosa and blaming her for Carmelo's behavior and adultery. Almost immediately after the interview, Patricia's fame skyrocketed.
Some say that Carmelo did not initially want to get involved with her, but Patricia tried to attract him whenever she got the chance. When she could not seduce him, she falsely announced that Carmelo was her boyfriend in order to cause controversy and disrupt his marriage with Rosa. Carmelo did not make any comments that would suggest he wanted a divorce from Rosa, but some evidence suggests he had a relationship with Patricia in the midst of the Champion film. A source claimed that he only married Rosa when he had a relationship with Patricia because Carmelo wanted to show that he was happily married and a devoted husband.

Most of Carmelo's fans didn't want to blame him for cheating; they were all focused on how Patricia had tempted him into having a relationship with her, with the motive of wanting him to divorce Rosa. Every claim stated that she wanted to have a relationship with him even when she was married to another man. She wanted Carmelo to forget the fact that he was married to Rosa. Some of his critics didn't believe Carmelo and argued that it would take more than a hundred Patricias to seduce a man with a solid moral code and self-respect, especially an evangelist who is supposed to be following the word of God.
In 2017, Carmelo became a life coach and remarried in Dallas, Texas, to a woman named Dana Licciardello. After turning 60, Carmelo had no hope for a family or a long life; the vast majority of his family had either died or been so distant that he had started to have a bleak outlook on his future. Dana changed everything for him and gave him more reasons to live.
The evangelist faced a severe health problem in 2003; he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the blood that affects the bone marrow. Carmelo explained the struggle, "I've had so many difficult things happen to me over the last 12 years; it was almost a situation that made sense. I could see this coming to a close as I wasn't really doing anything, and I had hardly any requests for concerts. The things I needed to do best I wasn't doing. I figured my time was up." Carmelo managed to pull through and survive the battle with cancer. Some of his fans urged him to clean up his lifestyle because they believed the disease was a message from God, telling him that he needed to change his ways.
Carmelo felt a message from God that said to him that he should stick around a little longer. No one knows if Carmelo really got the message or if he is still taking things for granted in his personal life. Since he is seen as a public figure in the religious community, his fans want him to take more responsibility, present a better example, and become a good role model for children following the faith.
On February 16, 2021, Carman passed away at a hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, due to complications arising from surgery to repair a hiatal hernia. He was 65 years old at the time of his death, which occurred 28 days after his 65th birthday. In addition to his wife and five stepchildren, he is survived by ten step-grandchildren.
