Carmen Elizabeth Ejogo was born on January 1, 1973, in Kensington, London, United Kingdom, to father Charles Ejogo and mother Elizabeth Ejogo. Raised in London alongside her brother, Charles Ejogo Jr., she is of Nigerian and Scottish descent and holds British nationality.
She attended the Oratory Roman Catholic Primary School in Chelsea, completing her education there in 1984. She later enrolled at the Godolphin and Latymer School, an independent girls' school located in Hammersmith, West London.
Carmen Ejogo began her acting career in 1986 with a role as Carmen in the film Absolute Beginners.
