Carolyn Maxwell is a well-known actress and businesswoman who has made a name for herself in the fashion industry. Aside from her professional accomplishments, the actress is also recognized for being the second wife of Orson Bean, the legendary entertainment mogul. She is most famous for her roles in Gas and Black Mirror. Carolyn Maxwell was born in 1945. From her childhood, Carolyn had always been passionate about fashion and design. However, her mother was not very supportive of her desire to attend a fashion school and insisted that Carolyn attend Hood College, where she could focus on liberal arts.
At Hood College, Carolyn studied for two years, majoring in Home Economics and learning a variety of domestic skills, such as sewing. After graduating, Carolyn was presented with a number of related opportunities. A friend once asked her to make her wedding dress and the dresses of her bridesmaids, while Foxridge Sportswear tasked her with designing a range of leather sports attire. Through these deals, Carolyn gained more customers, most of whom came by recommendation from previous customers who were delighted with the results. In her early days, Carolyn lived in a tiny apartment on Park Avenue, which also served as her workplace. She once stated that she could sew for hours without getting bored.
Carolyn was the former wife of actor Orson Bean; they met when she designed a dress for his three-year-old daughter, Michelle. Bean was not famous when they began dating, he was just a minor stage actor. They married in 1965 after a few years of their relationship and had three children together: Ezekiel, Max, and Susannah. Wanting to expand their horizons, they moved to Australia, but this ended up being a mistake as their conflicts and arguments increased. Bean had affairs behind her back and they believed someone had put a curse on them, causing black magic to hurt their son.
They moved back to America to get away from the curse and felt a cure that removed the black magic from their son. With all the issues, they decided to get a divorce in 1981 after 16 years of marriage. Their daughter Susannah died in 2012, causing significant grief for the family. Carolyn only acted in a few TV shows after their divorce, while Bean went into depression and started doing drugs. He was able to recover and his acting career took off.
He wrote several books, including Me and The Orgone, which were about his life and Orgone therapy. He married Alley Mills in 1993 and built a happy life together in Los Angeles. Carolyn did not marry again after her divorce from Orson Bean.

Carolyn broke into the entertainment scene and established herself when she landed a role in the comedy show, Tattletales. The show was an American comedy produced by Ira Skutch and first aired in February 1974 on the CBS network. After her big break, Carolyn managed to land roles on other shows such as Gas and Les Chiens Chauds. She gained a lot of fame and recognition from her role on the TV show Black Mirror, where she played the role of Elizabeth Smith, which was a hit among audiences. She was able to replicate the success she enjoyed in acting when she entered the fashion world. She had a great modeling career and also did well when it came to fashion design. Carolyn enjoyed the fashion world but had no intention of working for a large company that mass-produced their clothing.
She was more interested in providing a personal touch; most of her designs and sketches were for a specific person in mind. She enjoyed making stage costumes for stage productions and worked on Softly Consider the Nearness, a stage play with a run at the Provincetown Playhouse. Carolyn developed a big name in the fashion world and leveraged it to price her services. Her criteria for pricing depended on the amount of work a specific design required and the cost of the necessary fabric. An everyday dress from her started at a price of $30. Carolyn operated her fashion services by scheduling appointments with her interested clients through telephone. She liked to keep her business old school and traditional and did not care about updating her promotion to match the modern world.
A fashion manager could have helped her adapt to the new marketing and business relationships methods, but she was not interested. Maxwell felt that her usual way of doing things would be all that she needed. She enjoyed getting to know her clients beyond the surface level so that she could tap into their wants and desires.
