Dany Garcia, well-known businesswoman, philanthropist, bodybuilder, doting mother, and caring wife, was born on Nov 29, 1968, in Miami, Florida. Dany was born to very traditional parents who had emigrated from Cuba; her father worked in an auto body shop and her mother was a housewife. As Dany came from a poor family, her parents insisted that she learn how to cook as they felt it would help her later in life. Dany told her parents that she did not need to learn cooking as she was going to be a millionaire.
At that point, no one knew that Dany’s words would prove prophetic and that one day she would be managing her own multi-billion dollar enterprise; The Garcia Companies. However, Garcia still insists that the values of hard work, truthfulness, discipline and integrity taught to her by her parents remain with her and have played a major role in her overall success.
Dany, along with her brother and sister, was raised in New Jersey and that is where she went to school. Filled with a fierce ambition to make her own place in the world, and knowing the best way to achieve the ‘American Dream’ was to get quality education; Dany chose to attend University of Miami School of Business and received a Bachelor’s Degree while majoring in International Marketing and Finance. A brilliant student with sharp instincts, Dany got off to a flying start in her career in the complex but highly interesting and dynamic world of finance. She seemed to have truly found her calling, and eventually rose to the position of vice-president at Merrill Lynch. She subsequently left the company to pursue her own entrepreneurial ambitions.
While a VP at Merrill Lynch, Dany would become a trendsetter, breaking new ground in the finance world as a first generation Cuban woman. She gave up the job at Merrill Lynch to establish JDM Partners LLC, her own wealth management firm. She later established the multi-billion dollar talent and media management firm, The Garcia Companies, which manages top names in Hollywood like Henry Cavill and her ex- husband Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Moving from finance to film was easy for Garcia; she says “It was just taking the skill set from one career and moving it into the next. People say I reinvent myself, but it’s really just taking what I learn and then asking, ‘What do I add on?’”
Currently one of the hardest working women in Hollywood, Dany wears many hats. Dany is kept very busy with close to fifty current major Hollywood and television projects. HBO Ballers, a Baywatch reboot and an action comedy called Central Intelligence are among the major television productions being overseen by her company.
Dany is also a top class bodybuilder and finished seventh out of forty eight participants in the first competition that she ever took part in. The next event she participated in saw her improving her ranking to the third position. Never one to settle for anything but the best, Dany competed in the North American bodybuilding championship and won first place. Dany somehow always manages to find time in her busy Hollywood schedule to follow her passion for bodybuilding.

Dany Garcia met Dwayne Johnson at the University of Miami when he was 18 and she was 21. They tied the knot in 1997, with Johnson creating a successful career in pro-wresting and Dany quickly moving through the ranks at Merrill Lynch. Her experience in finance and her astute knowledge eliminated the role of any agent and middlemen for Johnson. Working cohesively and as a well-knit team, the duo quickly started rising to the top. Though their professional life was booming, it was their personal life that started taking a beating. After some deep assessment, the couple finally decided to call it quits and settled for one of the most amicable divorces in Hollywood’s history in 2008.
Their divorce did not seem to have any adverse effect on their business relationship. Johnson’s relationship with his long-time manager, closest confidant and ex-wife played an integral role in his rise to the top. Garcia was vital in creating Johnson’s brand and recalls how she kept him in line: “I remember the words specifically,” she says “I said, ‘let’s let Hollywood make room for you.’” With reported earnings of $ 64.5 million, Johnson was named by Forbes Magazine as Hollywood’s highest earning actor of 2016. This achievement points to how meticulously and astutely Dany has managed his career. Johnson and Garcia now jointly run their own production company, Seven Bucks, which they formed in 2013.
Dany, with a net-worth running into the millions of dollars, credits her personal and professional success to her close-knit family. She divorced Dwayne Johnson in 2008 and married fellow body builder Dave Rienzi in 2014. Dany has a lovely daughter, Simone, aged 15, from her previous marriage with Johnson. Johnson also has recently been blessed with a daughter of his own, Jasmine, whom he had with his long-time girlfriend Lauren Hashian.
Dany is known for her philanthropic work and her support for underprivileged and less fortunate members of society. Garcia has served as a trustee for both the University of Miami and FIU. A philanthropist with a heart of gold, she laid the foundation for The Beacon Experience in 2008; it is a foundation which seeks to empower at-risk children by helping them overcome various debilitating factors and barriers by expanding their educational horizon beyond high school. According to Dany, her foundation adopted sixty at-risk children when they were in the second grade. The children are now in the eighth grade and the economic, social and emotional support provided to them by the foundation allows them to be more and do more.
Dany Garcia is a multi-talented woman who has mastered the art of juggling, seamlessly, all of her priorities. Powerhouse manager to Hollywood superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, a top class entrepreneur, a bodybuilder, a doting mom, a loving wife and a well-known philanthropist, Dany has been equally successful in her professional as well as her personal life. Dany’s ability to listen, matched by her ability to learn and her desire to proceed with caution, shows that success is a mix of hard-work, honesty, knowledge and patience.
Looking ahead, Dany is excited for Seven Bucks upcoming films: “Skyscraper,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and especially “Jungle Cruise,” which is based on the Disneyland ride. “It’s the first film where I get to use every aspect of my toolbox,” Garcia says. “We can work with the imagineers at Disney and find ways to make the film experience happen before, during and after the film is released. It’s such a wonderful blending of our brands.”
