Grant Show was born on February 27, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan. In 1964, his parents, Ed and Kathleen Show, relocated the family to San Jose, California, seeking better opportunities and quality of life for their children. He has an older sister named Kelly. Show attended Samuel Ayer High School, where he first became involved in acting. Following high school, he enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he majored in theatre arts, laying the foundation for his career in the performing arts.
In 1984, while still a student, Show landed the role of Rick Hyde in the soap opera Ryan's Hope, a part he played until 1987. His performance earned him a Daytime Emmy Award nomination in 1987 for "Outstanding Young Man in a Daytime Drama Series." After leaving Ryan’s Hope, Show pursued further training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, sharpening his acting skills.
Upon returning to the United States, he took on several smaller roles before being cast in a guest appearance on Beverly Hills, 90210. This appearance led to his breakout role as Jake Hanson in Melrose Place, a spin-off of the original series. The character quickly became a fan favorite and remains Grant Show’s most recognized role.
Melrose Place propelled Show to stardom in the 1990s, making him one of television’s most recognizable actors. Despite the demanding schedule, he remained active in other television projects, including appearances in Burke’s Law, Between Love and Honor, Pretty Poison, and Mother Knows Best. His role as Jake Hanson also appeared in the series Models Inc. (1994) and an episode of Saturday Night Live (1995), further throughlines of the character's popularity.
Following the conclusion of Melrose Place, Show maintained steady work in various television series. In the mid-2000s, he appeared in roles on Beautiful People (2005–2006), Point Pleasant (2005–2006), and Swingtown (2008). From 2008 to 2011, he had a recurring role on Private Practice. In 2007, he portrayed the character Jack Dawson, a gay fashion editor, in three episodes of the FX drama Dirt.
From 2013 to 2016, he starred in the comedy-drama series Devious Maids as Spence Westmore, a wealthy Beverly Hills resident. This role added a new dimension to his television presence and was among his more commercially successful television endeavors. While there are unverified claims surrounding his income and net worth, the role notably revived his visibility on network television.
Beyond television, Show also explored stage acting, performing at The Alley Theatre in Houston. While not a significant source of income, he has expressed enjoyment and fulfillment from the experience. His stage credits include roles such as Terry Malloy in On the Waterfront and appearances in The Glass Menagerie and other theatrical productions.
Despite his public profile, Show has maintained a relatively private personal life. He met his first wife, Scottish model and actress Pollyanna McIntosh, in 2003 during a campaign for the women’s clothing brand Lane Bryant. They married in 2004 and divorced in 2011.
The following year, in July 2012, Show proposed to American actress, ballet dancer, and choreographer Katherine LaNasa. The couple married on August 18, 2012. As of the latest updates, they remain happily married.
