Early Life and Education

Grant Show was born on February 27, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan. In 1964, his parents, Ed and Kathleen Show, relocated the family to San Jose, California, seeking better opportunities and quality of life for their children. He has an older sister named Kelly. Show attended Samuel Ayer High School, where he first became involved in acting. Following high school, he enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he majored in theatre arts, laying the foundation for his career in the performing arts.

Early Acting Career and Breakthrough

In 1984, while still a student, Show landed the role of Rick Hyde in the soap opera Ryan's Hope, a part he played until 1987. His performance earned him a Daytime Emmy Award nomination in 1987 for "Outstanding Young Man in a Daytime Drama Series." After leaving Ryan’s Hope, Show pursued further training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, sharpening his acting skills.

Upon returning to the United States, he took on several smaller roles before being cast in a guest appearance on Beverly Hills, 90210. This appearance led to his breakout role as Jake Hanson in Melrose Place, a spin-off of the original series. The character quickly became a fan favorite and remains Grant Show’s most recognized role.

Television Success: Melrose Place and Beyond

Melrose Place propelled Show to stardom in the 1990s, making him one of television’s most recognizable actors. Despite the demanding schedule, he remained active in other television projects, including appearances in Burke’s Law, Between Love and Honor, Pretty Poison, and Mother Knows Best. His role as Jake Hanson also appeared in the series Models Inc. (1994) and an episode of Saturday Night Live (1995), further throughlines of the character's popularity.
