Jerry Angelo Brooks, professionally known as JB Smoove, was born on December 16, 1965, in Plymouth, North Carolina. He spent his early years in Mount Vernon, New York, where his family moved during his childhood. Smoove later attended Norfolk State University in Virginia, where he studied engineering and graphic design. Before establishing his career in entertainment, he worked at a custom T-shirt shop, where he also developed material for his comedy routines.
JB Smoove began his career in the early 1990s, gaining initial recognition through performances on HBO's Def Comedy Jam. He continued to build his comedy credentials with appearances on shows such as Everybody Hates Chris. His talents led him to join the writing staff of Saturday Night Live, where he worked from 2003 to 2006. Notably, he hosted several episodes of the Comedy Central series Russell Simmons Presents: Stand-Up at The El Rey. He also made guest appearances on popular animated series such as The Simpsons and American Dad!.
In addition to live-action work, Smoove has contributed voice performances in the gaming and animation industries. He voiced the character Dr. Ray De Angelo Harris in the video game Grand Theft Auto V and portrayed Bebop in the animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Portal Power.
