Kaitlyn Olson was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in the Pacific Northwest. She studied theater at the University of Oregon and graduated with a Bachelor's in theater arts in 1997. She then moved to Los Angeles.
She has made guest appearances on a number of shows including The Drew Carey Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Family Guy, and Punk'd. She had a small role in the movie Coyote Ugly in 2000. In 2004 she began playing the role of "Dee" on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia on FX which has had a prolific tenure of 14 years and counting.
Kaitlyn is married to her It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star Rob McElhenney who plays "Mac" on the show. They started dating during the second season of the series and were married on September 27, 2008. They share a son named Axel Lee who was born September 1, 2010. Kaitlyn reportedly went into labor at a baseball game and Axel was delivered without complication at home. Their second son, Leo Grey, was born two years later on April 5, 2012.
Kaitlyn starred in The Mick, a fox sitcom which ran for two seasons in 2017-2018 and continues to voice the role of Helen in Bob's Burgers, as well as "Dee" in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia on FX.
