Kaitlyn Olson was born in Portland, Oregon, and raised in the Pacific Northwest. She attended the University of Oregon, where she studied theater and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts in 1997. Following graduation, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.
